I think people underestimate the prevalence of the other option: some third kind of thing that sits at the intersection of incompetentence *and* malice.
@danhon White supremacy and authoritarianism?
@danhon We literally just had a whole presidential administration of it
@danhon a blending of "when all you have is a hammer, everything is a nail" and "dunning kruger"?
@danhon malcompetence
@davidbragg @danhon I remember somebody coining that word during George W Bush’s administration. We were so naive then.
let's call it Hanlon's Stubble
@danhon Weaponized incompetence. Not how it would be described by EM, but... Cui Bono?
Consider that Money Talks, and have a look at the financiers of the Twitter takeover.
@danhon weaponized incompetence?
@danhon this
Now that you mention it, it does seem these are pretty much essential parts of the basic operating system for every "mediocre male" out there.
Antagonism in some form is a knee jerk reaction these guys tend to have towards everything and everyone -except- other males they assume to be like them/on their team.
It would make sense that such levels of reactive antagonism would be there BECAUSE some tiny part of them is smart enough to know that if there was a real meritocracy, they would easily be thrown off their thrones... by the vast majority of Others in the world.
@danhon The Venn diagram does not indicate mutual exclusivity.
@danhon I hereby create the word, “MALEPT”
@danhon I never realised that I’d miss the folk in the competent-evil quadrant.
@danhon I reckon people underestimate how often sociopathy turns up in that zone.
@danhon I believe the Brits may have this covered already: the word is “cockwomble”
@danhon This is exactly what I think happened.
He was acting maliciously and tripped over his own stupidity which broke everything.
@danhon that’s why I like the saying “never dismiss malice simply because it is also stupid”
@danhon Joffrey Syndrome.
